The South (as Defined by the U.S. Census)

(South Atlantic)

Delaware (Be serious!)

Maryland (Talk about borderline.)

Washington, D.C. (Clearly a brand unto themselves.)

Virginia (I buy it.)

West Virginia (Even Southerners think these guys are hillbillies.)

North Carolina (I know this one from firsthand experience. Despite what the natives tell us, trust me, NC is Southern.)

South Carolina (Almost too Southern.)

Georgia (Southern as a Georgia peach.)

Florida (Get real, they really are all from New York.)

(East-South Central)

Kentucky (Southern all right.)

Tennessee (So, so Southern.)

Mississippi (Oh, yeah. Southern.)

Alabama (Southern to a fault.)

(West-South Central)

Oklahoma (No way. More like the mild, wild West.)

Arkansas (Unlike Missouri—that wishes it were Southern—Arkansas makes it by a hair [think pompadour].)

Louisiana (Cajun Southern.)

Texas (Like Gray Davis described California before they terminated him, Texas has people from every planet. It’s the New York of the South.)
